Water has been a strong presence in my work, frequently appearing as the environment for my doll heads and acting as a metaphor for the flow of human relations. A male (performance artist Clifford Owens) swims peacefully in a body of water, his eyes open and “heads” begin to surround and occupy his space. Accumulating, the heads become mounds, like growths at the bottom of the ocean that challenge one another for attention and recognition. He tries to commune with them, but only finds peace when towards the end his eyes close and we realize his peaceful state is his dreams.
