This work was created in the shape of a long scarf and composed of 20 double-layered panels of sheer red-pink fabric (this is a detail). On one side is the image of an old passport photo of my grandmother, on the other side the same image is collaged and manipulated to look like an African mask. At different angles you can’t see the mask side but when looking at a panel on the side with the full image of my grandmother, you notice the mask from behind. It’s an imprint that is visible and not visible at times—a commentary on how you may or may not be perceived as well as an imprint of our African roots.
