This sculpture, created through a phototransfer on fabric, is rooted in African as well Caribbean traditions with references to classical representations, tribal sculpture and Christian iconography. The prayer-like pose alludes to Christian paintings, yet the "collaged" aspect of the work looks like an artifact, a symbolic portrait, typical of non-Western cultures. The work is meant to reveal the unsettling effect of things that look almost human. Here, I am interested in the physical interplay between photography and the body. The leathery, patch-worked skin along with images of inverted feet and backside suggest the constructedness and instability of the young girl identity.
